The Civil Rights Era
In 1865, after the 13th amendment was ratified slavery ended. African Americans no longer had to pick cotton or take orders from whites but they still weren't treated equal. From 1954-1968 African Americans fought long and hard for their rights as U.S. citizens and as human beings. They were tired of being treated poorly by whites that thought they were better than them. Together African Americans took a stand & said no more. No more unequal voting rights, lynching, segregation, Jim Crow laws, and no more discrimination.
